I actually arrived early to the picket line, just a moment before our gate captain showed up with the picket signs.
So I got “first tracks” and four of us started the picket line. It was kinda like going skiing, being the first skiier off the lift and getting “first tracks” through the fresh untrekked snow, although not quite as exciting.
“I wonder who’ll be the first honk of the morning,” I said as I turned around to face traffic and wave my sign high.
A Pepsi truck drove by, honking an airhorn that pierced the early morning silence, followed by a string of cars and their more tinny sounding beeeeeeeps.
6:02 am. The Pepsi truck gets the audible version of “first tracks”.

I’d say we had a good day with all trucks that were not Messenger trucks.

For those who weren’t on the picket line today, a messenger truck was leaving the gate and decided to back up. There was a compact car behind him and he didn’t see it. We all yelled and tried to get him to stop, but it was too late.
Unlucky for him, there were 30+ witnesses.
