I’ve heard it a lot recently. “We’re on the same page”. I’ve felt it. Writers are united. We have to be on the same page to get through this and ensure we get a good contract from the AMPTP.
We’re on the same page. It’s about agreement. Which is also basic to improv.
At the rally on Tuesday, I was united and on the same page with thousands of writers, actors, teamsters and members of other unions that turned out to support the WGA.
It started when I ended up in a group that was chanting (see previous posts).
“Strike! Shut down! Hollywood’s a union town. Strike! Shut down…
We were in agreement. A chant doesn’t work well if everyone is chanting different words.
I was with this same group of chanters when Patric Verrone and other speakers took the stage.
Sandra Oh spoke, “I am appealing to the heads of these giant media conglomerates, as individuals, as men, to deal with the writers fairly. If the corporations make money in new media, the writers should too. It’s fair. Share.”
So let’s just shout it out.
“Disney.” –Share!
“Viacom.” –Share!
“G.E.” –Share!
“Newscorp.” –Share!
And that’s when it happened. I was in really strong agreement with the chanters around me. Although none of us knew what would happen next.
Sandra continued: “Sony…”
And our group replied as if it were rehearsed: AND CHER!
Improv, and life are great when we are in agreement. Now if we can just get the WGA and AMPTP on the same page and sign an acceptable agreement.
